💭 Would Your Team Pick You?

Performance is only part of what you bring to a team. How you show up matters too.

Issue 066 — September 15, 2026

If your teammates and coaches could pick their team all over again, would they pick you?

Not because you’re the best player, score the most points, or have the most talent. But because of what you bring to the team.

Are you dependable?
Do you communicate?
Do you bring energy?
When things don’t go your way, can you respond and keep competing?

Those things might not show up on a stat sheet, but they matter.

Being valuable to a team isn’t only about what you can do. It’s also about the kind of teammate you choose to be.

And that’s something every athlete can work on.

📣 KNOW WHAT YOU BRING

Every athlete brings something to a team.
The question is: what are you bringing?

Maybe it’s energy.
Communication.
Toughness.
Confidence.
Encouragement.

Maybe it’s all of the above.

You don’t have to be the loudest person on the team or the one giving speeches before every game.

But you should understand how your presence affects the people around you.

When a teammate makes a mistake, are you helping them reset or making it worse?
When practice gets difficult, are you still competing?
When the energy drops, do you help bring it back up?

Pay attention to what you bring into the gym, onto the field, and into the locker room.

Make sure your team is better because you’re there.

🤝 BE RELIABLE

Talent gets noticed.

Reliability builds trust.

Being a good teammate means your teammates and coaches know what they can expect from you.

They can count on you to:

Show up.
Know your job.
Do your part.
Follow through.
Be ready when the team needs you.

Your role might be to score, defend, rebound, communicate, set someone else up, or bring energy off the bench.

And that role might change throughout the season.

Own what your team needs from you in that moment, and keeping working to do more.

Whatever your role is, be someone your team knows they can count on.

🧠 OWN YOUR RESPONSE

Being a good teammate is easy when everything is going well.

You’re playing.
You’re winning.
The energy is up.

The harder test comes when it’s not.

You make a mistake. The team is losing. Energy is low. Everyone is frustrated.

That’s when people learn what they can expect from you.

Do you make excuses or blame someone else?
Do you check out?
Or can you take responsibility, make the adjustment, and keep competing?

How you respond when things aren’t going your way says a lot about the teammate you are.

Be the one your team can count on to show up, no matter the situation.

🎯 FINAL THOUGHT

Being a great player is about more than your individual performance.

What you bring to the team matters too.

How you show up, respond, and contribute becomes your reputation.

So ask yourself:
If my teammates and coaches got to pick their team today, would they pick me?

Make sure you give them a reason to say yes.

Be Elite.
