The Midseason Check-In

You're halfway through the season. Here's how to stay focused, keep building, and finish strong.

📰 COLLEGIATE ELITES WEEKLY

Issue 070 — October 13, 2026

The start of a season brings fresh energy. New goals, new opportunities, and plenty to work toward.

But as the season progresses, it’s easy to get caught up in the demands of competing week after week.

You focus on preparing for the next game.
Getting through the next practice.
Keeping up with everything on your schedule.

Before long, you can find yourself going through the motions instead of being intentional about getting better.

Whether you’re having a great season or things haven’t gone as planned, the halfway point is an opportunity to take stock, tighten things up, and make the most of the weeks ahead.

🧠 KNOW WHERE YOU STAND

Halfway through the season, you have something you didn’t have at the start: weeks of practices, games, and real competition to learn from.

Take a look at how things are going.

Are you performing the way you expected?
Are the skills you’ve been working on showing up in games?
Are you contributing to your team in the ways you want to?

Maybe you’re seeing the results of your work.
Maybe you’re struggling under pressure, making the same mistakes, or having trouble staying consistent from one game to the next.

Pay attention to those patterns.

Use what you’ve learned from competition to guide what you’re working on in practice.

Ask your coach for feedback, keep sharpening your strengths, and spend time developing the areas that need attention.

You don’t have to fix everything at once, but you should know what you’re working on and give it consistent attention.

The goal is to take what you’ve learned in the first half and use it to become a better athlete in the second.

⚡️ KEEP YOUR STANDARDS HIGH

As season ramps up, it’s easy to let the little things slide.

You start paying less attention to the details at practice or becoming less intentional about the work you’re putting in.

Don’t let that happen.

If your preparation and practice habits are helping you perform, keep them going. If you’ve gotten away from the routines that helped you start strong, get back to them.

Consistency means continuing to put in quality work, showing up prepared, and staying focused even when the excitement of a new season has worn off.

You don’t need a new approach every few weeks.

Sometimes the biggest difference comes from continuing to execute the basics you’ve already established.

🧱 BUILD ON THE FIRST HALF

There’s still a lot of season left, and plenty of opportunities to get better.

The second half is your chance to build on the work you’ve already put in, become more consistent, and apply what you’ve learned from earlier competitions.

Every practice is another opportunity to develop your skills.
Every game is a chance to put what you’ve been working on into action.

As you head into the final stretch, it’s time to lock in.

Stay focused on improving.

Keep competing.

Make sure you’re finishing the season better than you started.

🎯 FINAL THOUGHT

You’ve put in half a season. Don’t lose momentum now.

The halfway point is a chance to reflect on how far you’ve come and refocus on what’s ahead.

Stay locked in. Keep building. Finish strong.
