Recruiting Is a Project, Not an Event
The best opportunities aren’t left to chance. They’re built through preparation, organization, and consistent action.

📰 COLLEGIATE ELITES WEEKLY
Issue 059 — July 28, 2026
Many athletes think recruiting comes down to one moment.
One showcase.
One tournament.
One conversation with the right coach.
They hope that if they perform well enough, everything else will fall into place.
But that’s rarely how recruiting works.
The biggest opportunities are usually created through consistent effort, not one standout moment.
Stay organized. Communicate consistently. Keep moving the process forward.
Just like training, recruiting rewards consistency far more than one great performance.
📋 BUILD A PLAN, NOT JUST A WISHLIST
Most athletes have a dream school.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
But recruiting becomes difficult if your entire plan depends on one coach or one program.
Coaches switch schools.
Rosters fill.
Transfers occur.
Needs change from year to year.
That’s why successful recruiting starts with options.
Start by building a list of schools you’re interested in.
Include the top schools you’re excited about, as well as programs that fit your athletic level, and schools you simply want to learn more about.
Your list will evolve. That’s part of the process.
Don’t build your entire future around one school. Build enough opportunities that you get to choose the best fit.
📞 STAY ORGANIZED. KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING.
Imagine talking with fifteen college coaches over the course of a year.
Would you remember who you emailed, when you last connected, what they asked you to send, or when you should follow up?
Probably not.
That’s why organization matters.
Create a simple recruiting tracker that includes:
School and coaching staff
When you last reached out or spoke
Follow-up reminders
Upcoming camps and showcases
Notes from previous conversations
Recruiting isn’t a one-time introduction. It’s an ongoing conversation.
As you improve, keep coaches updated with new film, strong performances, and when you’ll be attending their camps or showcases.
Organization keeps the process moving. Consistent communication keeps you on a coach’s radar.
🤝 REMEMBER YOU’RE CHOOSING THEM TOO
It’s easy to feel like recruiting is all about impressing coaches.
But you’re making an important decision as well.
Ask questions.
Learn about the team’s culture.
Understand how athletes develop in the program.
Find out what coaches value.
The more you learn, the easier it becomes to recognize the opportunities that are truly the right fit.
🎯 FINAL THOUGHT
Recruiting isn’t about doing one thing perfectly.
It’s about consistently doing the little things well.
Treat recruiting the same way you treat your training. With purpose, discipline, and a plan.
The more ownership you take, the more opportunities you’ll create and the more prepared you’ll be to take advantage of them.
