đ° Hydration: A Performance Tool
Most athletes fall behind before practice even starts, how better hydration can change your performance.

đ° COLLEGIATE ELITES WEEKLY
Issue 043 â April 7, 2026
As we move into spring and summer and the temperature starts to rise, one of the most overlooked performance factors in sports becomes harder to ignore:
Hydration.
It sounds simple. It is simple.
But itâs also one of the most common gaps we see in athletes.
They show up to practice already behind.
They donât drink enough during workouts.
They wait until theyâre thirsty⌠which is already too late.
And it quietly affects everything.
đ§ HYDRATION CHANGES EVERYTHING
When youâre dehydrated, even slightly, your performance drops.
Your energy fades faster.
Your muscles fatigue sooner.
Your reaction time slows.
Your focus slips.
And your risk of cramps or injury goes up.
You can be doing everything else right. Training hard, showing up consistently, putting in extra work and still underperform because your body doesnât have what it needs.
Thatâs how much this matters.
âąď¸ THIRST IS TOO LATE
Most athletes rely on thirst as their signal.
But waiting until youâre thirsty isnât a strategy, itâs a warning sign.
By the time you feel it, youâre already behind.
High-level athletes donât wait until theyâre thirsty. They stay ahead of it.
Drink throughout the day.
Start before training even begins.
When there is a break at practice, use it. Donât waste it.
You wouldnât wait until your phone is dead to charge it.
Donât do that with your body.
đ BUILD THE HABIT
This doesnât require a complicated plan.
It requires consistency.
Bring a water bottle everywhere.
Finish it. Refill it. Do it again.
Add electrolytes when the intensity or heat goes up.
Pay attention to how your body feels when youâre hydrated vs. when youâre not.
That awareness alone will change how you show up.
đŻ FINAL THOUGHT
If youâre not sure where to start, aim to drink water consistently throughout the day, not just at practice.
Your goal is simple: donât fall behind.
You perform at the level you prepare your body for so hydrate like it matters, because it does.
