🧱 Build the Foundation

Every new level of performance builds on the one before it.

📰 COLLEGIATE ELITES WEEKLY

Issue 058 — July 21, 2026

The best athletes are always striving for the next level.

To jump higher.
Run faster.
Earn more playing time.
Make varsity.
Compete in college.
Become stronger, quicker, and more confident.

But what separates the best athletes isn’t simply that they want more.

It’s that they understand every new level of performance is built on the foundation beneath it.

The training that makes you faster requires a certain level of strength.

The drills that make you more explosive require a certain level of quality.

The training that pushes you to the next level first requires a body that’s prepared to handle it.

🔐 EVERY LEVEL UNLOCKS THE NEXT

One of the biggest misconceptions in sports is that improvement happens in giant leaps.

In reality, it happens in layers.

Before you can become more explosive, you need enough strength to produce force.

Before you can train at a higher intensity, your body needs the conditioning to support it.

Before advanced skills become automatic, the fundamentals have to become second nature.

Each layer expands what you’re capable of doing.
Each layer prepares you for the next.

The athletes who improve the fastest aren’t always doing the fanciest workouts.

They’re consistently building the foundation that allows them to keep progressing.

💪 YOU HAVE TO GET FIT TO GET FIT

Sometimes you have to become the athlete who’s ready for the next level of training before that training can make you better.

An athlete who struggles to move well isn’t ready for advanced plyometrics.

An athlete who gets exhausted halfway through practice won’t get the most out of high-level skill work.

An athlete with poor mobility may never reach their full strength potential until that limitation is addressed.

It’s not because they aren’t working hard.

It’s because their foundation isn’t ready yet.

Instead of asking,

“What’s the hardest workout I can do?”

Ask,

“What foundation do I need so I can benefit from the next level of training?”

That small shift changes everything.

🌱 NEVER OUTGROW THE BASICS

Elite athletes still spend time on the fundamentals.

They still warm up with intention.
They still work on movement quality.
They still build strength.
They still prioritize recovery.
They still practice skills they’ve performed thousands of times.

Why?

Because the foundation is never finished.

Every new level of competition demands an even stronger one.

The better you become, the more important the basics become.

🗣️ Coach’s Insight: You have to become the athlete who’s ready for the next level before the next level can make you better.

🎯 FINAL THOUGHT

Growth has no finish line.

One of the best parts about sports is that there’s always another level to reach.

A stronger first step.
Better decision-making.
More confidence under pressure.
Improved recovery.
Greater consistency.

No matter how successful you become, there’s always another skill to develop, another weakness to strengthen, and another opportunity to improve.

That’s what makes training exciting.

You’re never finished building.

You simply continue strengthening the foundation that supports everything you’re capable of becoming.

Because every new level of performance is builds on the one before it.

Be Elite.
